To paraphrase Mark Twain, nobody's life, liberty or property is safe when the legislature is in session. Help the LCCA help you by supporting it's Governmental Affairs Committee. For example, both the BIAW and the LCCA have been sued, claiming that nobody knew that the ROII agreement specifically permitted both organizations to keep a portion of the returns. From 2005-2007, the county illegally over-charged $1.9 million in permit fees, and transferred it to the General Fund. Last year, the City of Longview required that any contractor that bids on certain projects must draw 15% of its work force from a state run apprentice program. And in defiance of the BIAW's position, builders in the Puget Sound area continue to support legislation mandating expensive warranties on new homes.

The LCCA is proud of what it has been able to do. Counsel has been retained and is seeking to dismiss the suit. The county's general fund is repaying the $1.9 million to Building & Planning to improve service and to keep down further permit increases. Reluctantly, the City of Longview is willing to talk further about the apprenticeship program. The LCCA Board helped elect a BIAW officer slate, in a tough election, that supports the fiscal beliefs and experience of the majority of it's membership. But there is still la lot more to do this year. What can you do? Help us increase general membership Join the committee, help wherever you can. Respond to surveys. Attend the "Contractor's Meeting", every 4th Tuesday at the Elks in Kelso, and talk with us. For more information contact the LCCA or Keath Huff, Chairman http://keath_huff@utilizeit.com
